Welcome — working, studying, and getting through the week

This room covers work and education in the broadest sense: jobs, careers, university, college, school, and everything involved in keeping going with any of them. It's a mixed room by design. Someone here is deciding whether to tell a new employer. Someone is a parent trying to get a school to take something seriously. Someone is a student working out what's available to them. Different situations, but the same underlying question — how do I do this thing, in a body that's changed the terms. Talk about any of it. Adjustments you've asked for, what you got, what you're weighing up, or just how the week's gone. A few things worth saying up front: Whether to tell people is your call. There's no correct answer, and it's not the same answer for every job, every course, or every stage. People here have done it every way round and can tell you how it went. Nobody should be pushed either way. The tiring part is often invisible. A lot of what these conditions take out of you doesn't show up in the task itself — it's the stairs to the meeting, the standing about, the getting there and getting home. It's easy to feel you're not coping when actually you're doing the job plus a second, unpaid one. Changing course isn't failure. Going part-time, changing roles, stepping back, retraining, or stopping altogether are all things people here have done. Some found it a loss, some a relief, most a bit of both. It's a decision, not a defeat, and it's a fair thing to think out loud about here. One ask: what's available varies a lot between employers, schools and universities, and the rules change. So share what worked for you, but treat it as a lead to follow up rather than a guarantee of what you'll get. Otherwise — say where you're at. Thriving, coasting, struggling, or somewhere between. All of it counts as being in this room.
