Resources
Support & resources
A growing, staff-curated list of places to find support — external organisations for now, until the community can contribute its own.
Benefits & money
The main government payment for people on a low income or out of work, claimed and managed online. Claims can include an extra amount where a health condition limits your capacity for work. The forms and assessments are hard to get right alone — Citizens Advice or a welfare rights service can help you apply.
A paid photo ID card that acts as proof of disability, giving free carer tickets and discounts at participating venues and retailers. £20 for two years — run by a private company rather than a government scheme, so it's worth checking the places you visit accept it before buying.
A national disability rights organisation with guidance on benefits, employment rights, education and independent living.
The official government guide to PIP — who can claim, how to apply, and what to expect from the assessment.
A national charity helping people access the benefits, grants and support they're entitled to, including a benefits calculator and grants search tool.
Free, independent advice on benefits, debt, housing, legal and consumer issues, with local offices and an online service across the UK.
Carers support
The national charity for unpaid carers — advice on benefits, juggling work and care, and connecting with other carers.
Community & social
An inclusive online gaming community designed with accessibility first, welcoming players of all abilities, backgrounds and experience levels. Runs regular gaming nights, tournaments and esports watch parties, alongside an active Discord where members can chat, play and connect.
Equipment & mobility
Short-term wheelchair rental delivered to your door, no GP referral needed. Free in some areas (Northern Ireland, Hampshire, Norfolk & Waveney) where it's NHS-funded.
Grant from your local council towards home adaptations — ramps, grab rails, wider doors, stairlifts, level-access showers and more. Doesn't affect other benefits.
Official guide to applying for or renewing a Blue Badge, the parking permit scheme for disabled drivers and passengers.
Impartial, expert-run advice on equipment and aids for independent living, from the Disabled Living Foundation. Includes a searchable product directory and the AskSARA guided advice tool.
NHS guide to getting equipment, walking aids, wheelchairs and home adaptations through social services — this is the route to an occupational therapy (OT) assessment, which usually decides what you're eligible for.
Lets you exchange your mobility allowance to lease a car, scooter or powered wheelchair, including insurance and maintenance.
NHS & clinical
The UK's National Health Service. Find local services, understand symptoms and conditions, and get guidance on treatment and referrals.
